Setting Up Rune Pages for Classic

Step-by-step guide to configuring rune pages and masteries in League Classic. Marks, seals, glyphs, and quintessences explained.

Pre-Game Configuration Flow

Every Classic game begins with rune page and mastery configuration before champion select completes. Open the rune editor from the Classic client hub or during champion select. Select an existing page or create a new one—page slots unlock through Classic Levels on Classic Levels.

Configure runes first, then masteries, then summoner spells. This three-step setup replaces modern League's single rune reforge selection and represents the deepest pre-game optimization layer Classic restores from Season 3.

Building Your First Page

Standard AD page: armor penetration marks, armor seals, magic resist glyphs, attack speed or AD quintessence. Standard AP page: magic penetration marks, armor seals, cooldown reduction glyphs, ability power quintessence. Tank page: armor or MR marks, health seals, MR or armor glyphs, health quintessence.

Copy templates from Rune Recommender for your main champions. Adjust quintessence and 3–6 seal/glyph slots based on lane matchup information visible in champion select loading screen.

Mastery Point Allocation

Allocate 21 points maximum in one tree, with remaining 9 points across other trees. ADC example: 18 offense (Deadliness, Sunder), 3 utility (Swiftness), 9 defense (Armor, MR). Mage example: 21 offense (Archmage, Mental Force), 9 utility (Meditation, Summoner's Insight).

Full tree breakdowns on Offense Tree, Defense Tree, and Utility Tree. Redistribute freely between games—maintain 3–5 preset pages per role for quick selection.

Matchup Adjustments

Against AP Sion mid: swap to magic resist seals and MR masteries. Against Vayne ADC: prioritize armor seals and Randuin's Omen in item build from Legendary Builds. Against Blitzcrank support: movement speed quintessence and utility Swiftness masteries for hook dodge.

These micro-adjustments win lane trades that autopilot pages lose. Veteran Season 3 players maintained 20+ pages for every matchup—Classic Pass page slot progression enables similar depth over time.

Common Mistakes

Using AP runes on AD champions or vice versa wastes stat budget. Forgetting to swap masteries when changing champions loses free stats. Running 21 offense with zero defensive investment gets punished by all-in supports in bot lane.

Not binding summoner spells before queueing causes accidental Flash on cooldown engagements. Verify D/F assignments on Summoner Spells every session. Test pages in Co-op vs AI before Classic Draft.
