Classic Levels Explained

How Classic Levels work in League Classic. XP progression, rewards, and the pass-like system replacing old account leveling to 30.

Classic Levels progression in League Classic

What Are Classic Levels

Classic Levels replace the original League account leveling system from 1 to 30 without requiring the same time investment before accessing full runes and game features. Riot designed Classic Levels as a pass-like progression track that emulates the old leveling journey while granting tier 3 runes immediately at launch so gameplay stays accessible.

Every game of Classic Draft, Co-op vs AI, and custom matches earns Classic XP toward your Classic Level. Higher levels unlock rune page slots, IP bonuses, emotes, titles, and Portraits across free and paid Classic Pass tracks on Summoner's Journey. Classic Skins for eligible champions are free defaults at launch—see Classic Skins.

Earning Classic XP

Classic XP awards based on game duration, performance, and daily first-win bonuses similar to modern League XP systems but tuned for Classic's longer average game length on Pacing vs Modern. Winning grants more XP than losing, but participation in full games always progresses your level.

Daily first-win bonus on Classic Pass accelerates early progression—log in for at least one game daily during launch week starting July 29, 2026 Patch 26.15. Co-op vs AI games count toward Classic Levels for players learning the mode via How to Play before entering Draft.

Level Rewards

PBE datamining confirms Classic Levels cap at 30 for the free one-time progression track. Milestones unlock runes and masteries at Level 4, Summoner's Journey access, extra quintessence slots, classic rune pages, IP, Blue Essence, skin tokens, emotes, titles, and Portraits. The Council voting power increases at Levels 5, 15, and 25 per SkinSpotlights PBE coverage.

Level 30 grants Rustier Blitzcrank—the signature free cosmetic capstone Riot highlighted in the July 14 dev blog. Zilean Portraits, Beware Baron icon, Spirit Blossom 2022 ward skin, and Classic title appear at intermediate milestones. Classic Levels vs Live Account Level

Classic Levels are separate from your main League of Legends account level. Progression exists entirely within the Classic mode ecosystem. Your live ranked status, honor, and blue essence do not transfer, but champion ownership from live League does carry over into Classic.

This separation lets Riot tune Classic progression independently without affecting live League economy. The Council voting tokens also tie into Classic Level milestones—see How Voting Works for cross-system rewards.

Optimizing Level Progression

Play consistently rather than grinding marathon sessions—daily bonuses compound over the seasonal Classic Pass period. Mix Draft games for maximum XP with Co-op vs AI for learning new champions from Best Starters without ranked pressure.

Track your level progress alongside Summoner's Journey milestones on Summoner's Journey. Completing journey chapters often coincides with Classic Level breakpoints that unlock the most valuable rewards like rune page slots and exclusive Classic Skins.
