Control scheme, camera settings, ward placement, and keybinds for League Classic on the old Summoner's Rift map.
Basic Control Scheme
League Classic uses the standard League of Legends control scheme: right-click movement, Q/W/E/R abilities, left-click targeting, and Spacebar camera centering. Players familiar with live League transfer controls directly without relearning inputs. Classic runs inside the same Riot Client as standard League.
Key differences appear in pre-game setup—manual rune page configuration on Rune Pages and mastery point allocation across three trees—rather than in-game control changes. Summoner spell activation uses the same D/F keybinds on Summoner Spells.
Camera and Map Awareness
Camera unlocked mode remains standard for experienced players. The old map layout on Summoner's Rift requires relearning rotation distances—unlock camera and drag to track side lane action during mid lane farming. Fixed camera players may struggle with tri-brush gank awareness in top and bot lanes.
Minimap scale and opacity settings should prioritize visibility on the darker Classic map aesthetic. Increase minimap size in settings for better jungle tracking without modern scuttle vision indicators.
Ward Placement and Vision
Ward placement uses trinket slot and purchased Vision Wards from shop. Place wards in river brush, tribush entrances, and jungle choke points. Supports invest heavily in Oracle's Elixir for sweep denial during objective contests.
Without modern automatic trinket upgrades, manually purchase and place wards throughout the game. Classic vision management separates skilled supports on Support from autopilot players who rely on modern convenience systems.
Smartcast and Keybind Optimization
Smartcast settings transfer from live League client configuration. Champions with skillshot abilities—Lux, Morgana, Blitzcrank—benefit from smartcast for faster combo execution. Point-and-click champions like Annie and Master Yi work equally well with normal cast.
Configure item active keybinds for Deathfire Grasp, Zhonya's Hourglass, Youmuu's Ghostblade, and Randuin's Omen from Legendary Builds. Item actives win teamfights in Classic more than modern League where actives are rarer.
Communication Tools
Ping system availability matches live League for directional pings, danger alerts, and objective calls. Voice chat integration through the Riot Client works identically. Classic Draft champion select includes positional preference indicators replacing old role-call chat arguments.
Manual timer tracking for dragon, Baron, and buff camps uses chat timestamps—type clock time in chat when objectives die for team coordination. This old-school habit returns as a core Classic skill absent from modern automated timer UI.
