Classic Skins and Portraits
Exclusive Classic Skins and Portraits in League Classic Pass. Early League visual designs and seasonal cosmetic rewards.
Classic Skins Philosophy
Classic Skins recreate visual aesthetics from League of Legends' first seasons—original splash art styles, simplified model designs, and color palettes that veterans remember from 2009–2013. These cosmetics exist exclusively in Classic mode and do not transfer to live League, making them collectible artifacts of the nostalgia experience.
Riot's art team referenced archived assets and community nostalgia feedback when designing Classic Skins for the launch pass season. Skins release through Summoner's Journey premium track on Summoner's Journey and select Classic Level milestones.
Launch Season Skins
Launch Classic Pass includes Classic Skins for popular champions across roles—Ashe, Garen, Lux, and Master Yi among confirmed early rewards. Each skin features period-accurate visual design without modern VFX complexity, matching Classic's overall aesthetic direction of honoring roots while modernizing select systems.
Portraits—profile icons styled after early League artwork—accompany skin rewards at major pass milestones. Titles like "Season 3 Veteran" and "Classic Summoner" display in Classic lobbies and loading screens.
Earning Classic Skins
Premium Classic Pass track unlocks the full skin lineup progressively as you earn Journey XP. Free track provides preview chroma variants or emotes referencing skin themes without the full skin unlock. IP cannot purchase Classic Skins directly—they remain pass-exclusive.
Champions you do not own can still earn skin rewards—they activate when you unlock the champion via IP on IP & Currency. Plan champion unlocks alongside pass progression to use skins immediately upon earning them.
Classic Skins vs Live Skins
Live League skins you own do not automatically appear in Classic mode with modern visual designs. Classic uses its own cosmetic ecosystem to maintain period authenticity. Some live legacy skins may receive Classic equivalents with adjusted visuals matching the mode's art direction.
This separation prevents visual anachronisms—a Pulsefire Ezreal skin would break Classic's 2013 aesthetic. Players who want modern visuals play live League; Classic Skins serve the nostalgia audience exclusively.
Future Season Skins
Each Classic season introduces new Classic Skins tied to Council-added champions and seasonal themes. When Caitlyn and Fiora join via Future Additions, expect Classic Skin releases matching their original visual designs from their release years.
Community voting through The Council may influence which champions receive Classic Skins first—see How Voting Works for how player feedback shapes cosmetic priorities alongside champion additions.
