Support Role in Classic
Support in League Classic means gold-generation items, ward investment, and lane all-in or sustain identity without modern enchanter scaling. Heart of Gold and Philosopher's Stone define economy—see Support Gold Items. Hook supports and hard engage dominate because vision tools are limited compared to modern trinket upgrades.

S and A Tier Supports
Blitzcrank S-tier—one hook wins games when enemies lack vision on the old map. Morgana A-tier Black Shield counters CC-heavy compositions featuring Sion, Annie, and Amumu. Soraka A-tier global Wish sustain dominates extended laning phases.
Leona A-tier all-in engage pairs with Tristana and Vayne for kill lanes. These four supports appear in most Classic Draft compositions at launch.
B-Tier Supports
Janna B-tier peel against engage comps with Monsoon disengage. Sona B-tier aura scaling in extended teamfights. Alistar B-tier Headbutt-Pulverize combo all-in. Taric B-tier armor aura and stun for AD-heavy teams.
B-tier supports excel situationally—Janna into Jarvan engage, Sona into poke sieges, Alistar into immobile ADC matchups.
Support Economy and Warding
Complete gold-gen item by 8–10 minutes to afford team utility items. Invest in Vision Wards and Oracle's Elixir for map control on Controls. Without modern trinket sweepers, support vision denial wins objectives.
Roaming supports like Blitzcrank and Alistar create mid lane pressure after completing gold items. Coordinate roam timing with jungler objective schedules for maximum map impact.
Draft and Synergy
Pair Leona with aggressive ADCs for kill lanes. Morgana protects immobile ADCs against hook supports. Soraka sustains through poke lanes against Ezreal and Corki. Blitzcrank bans often come from ADC players who fear lane coinflip.
